The French Garden, created between 1600 and 1680 and shaded by large cedars planted in the 18th century.
learn moreThe Château du Seuil garden is symmetrical in plan centred around a mirror of water. Four large flowerbeds with a Rognes stone border, highlighted with rose gravel placed around the central pool; these flowerbeds are decorated with box-tree embroidery in the style of the Pavillon Trimont in Aix-en-Provence and Mediterranean plants.
Two series of small triangular beds arranged in circular arcs which extend to the east and west. Lagerstroemia or Lilacs of the Indies whose red summer flowers and blazing autumn leaves adorn the garden.
From either side, two large lawns framed by trees, namely old evergreen oaks with two circular flowerbeds at each end complete the ensemble.
Its fountain is an important element of decoration and animation in the garden; it was designed to operate with a minimum of water: a pool located on the upper terrace collects rainwater and feeds the mirror of water of the lower pool and the fountain which is designed to work for an hour when guests take an evening stroll in the garden...
A wall protecting the garden from animals, namely wild boars, is an unusual feature of this French garden. The Seuil garden is a garden that has slowly conquered the wilderness over time.
