Château du Seuil: a château in Aix-en-Provence

The Château du Seuil has two facets:

- A "château-farm" massed around its courtyard, which has always been the seat of agricultural activity, as well as preserving a defensive look with its sturdy towers from its past eras (13th/16th centuries),

- In the 17th century the château became the summer residence of the ennobled bourgeois: the MICHAELIS, members of the Aix Parliament, who adorned it with the attributes of real power and the amenities of a Provençal house: a noble central façade, shield pediment, stone lions and a French garden with a mirror of water.

These two facets distinguish it from other classic Aix-en-Provence houses.

Its exterior (façades, gardens), which has hardly changed since then and is classified on the French Supplementary Historic Monument List (ISHMH), reflecting one of the most illustrious periods in the history of Provence.

After renovation, the château will host receptions, weddings and seminars.

The Garden

The French Garden, created between 1660 and 1680 and shaded by large cedars, was planted in the 18th century.

The terraced garden successively presents an esplanade with two century-old cedars, followed by a French garden around a pool with a basin, decorated with flowerbeds and ornamented with box-tree embroidery; all under the watchful eye of two stone lions.
